Casaprota is an Italian commune in the province of Rieti in the Lazio region with 717 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located 62 km north of Rome and 23 km south of Rieti .

geography

Casaprota is located on a hill above the Farfa Valley, in the Sabine Mountains . The district of Collelungo Sabino belongs to the municipality.

Casaprota is a member of the Comunità Montana dei Monti Sabini .

The neighboring towns are Frasso Sabino , Mompeo , Montenero Sabino , Poggio Nativo , Poggio San Lorenzo and Torricella in Sabina .

history

Casa Perotae was first mentioned in 776 . However, the name indicates an ancient foundation. In the 10th century it belonged to the Farfa Abbey as a Casaprotae fund . In the 11th and 12th centuries it belonged to the De Romania noble family. In the 13th century it came to the Brancaleoni family, a branch of De Romania, who finally sold it to the Orsini in 1476 .
