Teemu Rannikko (born September 9, 1980 in Turku ) is a Finnish basketball player. The 1.89 m tall point guard is one of the few Finns who have established themselves in European club basketball and has been named Finland's Basketball Player of the Year five times (2003, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010).

Career

Rannikko made his debut in the Finnish Korisliiga in 1996 . In 1998 he was named the most improved player of the regular season , and in 1999 and 2000 he was named the most valuable player , making him the youngest ever winner of this award in league history. He then worked in Italy for five years: First, Rannikko was loaned from Benetton Treviso to the A2-series club Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia , and in the three following seasons he was under contract with Euro Roseto and Scavolini Pesaro in Serie A1 . Rannikko played in his last season in Italy with his national team colleague Hanno Möttölä in a team and was used for the first time in the Euroleague . After moving to the Slovenian club Olimpija Ljubljana , he received significantly more playing time and quickly developed into one of the team's most important players, especially offensively. Rannikko also won national titles for the first time with the double from championship and cup in 2006. From 2007 to 2009 he was under contract with the Russian club BK Chimki , with whom he won the Russian Cup in his first season and reached the final of the national championship in both years. A move to Spain to CB Granada followed . In 2010 Rannikko returned to Italy and signed a contract with Pallacanestro Varese . After two years he moved back to Olimpija Ljubljana. For the 2013/14 season he returned to his home country and plays for Kataja from Joensuu .

Rannikko has been a member of the Finnish senior national team since 1997 , with whom he recently qualified for the finals of the 2011 and 2013 European Championships . There the national selection reached the rounds of the top twelve teams somewhat surprisingly and was able to establish itself among the top ten teams in Europe under national coach Henrik Dettmann , who had also previously coached the German national team.
