Poggio Moiano is a municipality with 2811 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio .
geography
Poggio Moiano is located 60 km northeast of Rome and 29 km south of Rieti . It is located in the Sabine Mountains above the Farfa Valley . The district of Cerdomare and the southern part of Osteria Nuova belong to the municipality. The northern part belongs to Frasso Sabino. The municipality extends over an altitude difference of 325 to 1,125 m slm Poggio Moiano is a member of the Comunità Montana dei Monti Sabini .
The south-eastern part of the municipality belongs to the Parco Naturale dei Monti Lucretili.
The community is located in earthquake zone 2 (medium risk).
The neighboring municipalities are Colle di Tora , Frasso Sabino , Monteleone Sabino , Poggio Nativo , Pozzaglia Sabina , Rocca Sinibalda , Scandriglia and Torricella in Sabina .

history
The place was probably created after the destruction of Trebula Mutuesca in the 9th century. In 1037 it was first mentioned as fundus Mongianus in a document from Farfa Abbey .
