Leonessa is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio with 2218 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 114 km northeast of Rome and 37 km north of Rieti .

geography

Leonessa is located in the Monti Reatini in the valley of the Corno. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Montepiano Reatino and carries the Bandiera Arancione a quality seal in the field of tourism and the environment of the TCI .

The neighboring towns of Cantalice , Cascia ( PG ), Cittareale , Ferentillo ( TR ), Micigliano , Monteleone di Spoleto (PG), Poggio Bustone , Polino (TR), Posta and Rivodutri .

Paolo Trancassini (Citizen List Uniti per Leonessa ) was elected mayor in June 2009. His predecessor Alfredo Rauco (citizen list) (2004-2009) did not stand for election.
