Turania is an Italian commune with 234 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Rieti in the Lazio region .

geography

Turania is 73 km northeast of Rome and 50 km southeast of Rieti . It is located above the Turano valley in the Sabine Mountains .

The municipality extends over an altitude difference of 540 to 975 meters above sea level. Turania is a member of the Comunità Montana del Turano .

The community is located in earthquake zone 2 (medium risk).

The neighboring municipalities are Carsoli ( AQ ), Collalto Sabino , Collegiove , Pozzaglia Sabina and Vivaro Romano ( RM ).

history

The parish was called Petescia until 1950 , when it was renamed after the river it crosses.

Petescia was first mentioned in 890.
