Rocca Sinibalda is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio with 779 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 72 km northeast of Rome and 19 km south of Rieti .

Rocca Sinibalda is located on a hill above the Turano valley in the Sabine Mountains . It is a member of the Comunità Montana del Turano .

The districts are Magnalardo, Pantana, Posticciola, Tomassella, Torricchia, Trampani and Vallecupola.

The neighboring towns are Ascrea , Belmonte in Sabina , Castel di Tora , Colle di Tora , Concerviano , Longone Sabino , Monteleone Sabino , Poggio Moiano , Torricella in Sabina , Varco Sabino .

history

Rocca Sinibalda was first mentioned in 1084. It belonged to Farfa Abbey . In 1527 it came into the possession of the aristocratic Cesarini family , who commissioned Baldassare Peruzzi to redesign the castle.

Attractions

  • The castle in Rocca Sinibalda dates from the 11th century and was rebuilt by Baldassare Peruzzi during the Renaissance (from 1539) . Inside there are frescoes from the 16th century.
  • The Castello Mareri in Posticciola dates from the 13th and 14th centuries
  • The castle in Magnalardo dates back to the 10th century.
  • The parish church of Santi Agapito e Giustino was built in the 16th century and still has frescoes from that time.
