history

The place is probably the successor of the Sabine city Orvinium, which was mentioned by Dionysius of Halicarnassus and which was probably destroyed before the turn of the millennium. The medieval Canemorto , which was probably founded in the 12th century, was renamed after this town in 1863.

Canemorto belonged to the Benedictines of the nearby Santa Maria del Piano monastery for a long time before it came into the possession of the Orsini in the 15th century . With the marriage of Maria Orsini and Vincenzo Estouteville , it came to his family. As early as 1573, however, they sold it to the Muti family, who expanded the castle in the Renaissance style . Marcantonio Borghese bought it in 1632 .
