Posta is an Italian commune with 611 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Rieti in the Lazio region .

geography

Posta is 112 km northeast of Rome , 67 km southwest of Ascoli Piceno and 37 km northeast of Rieti . It is located in the Velino Valley , surrounded by the mountains of the Reatine Abruzzo . To the south of the town the river flows into the impressive Gole del Velino (Gorges of the Velino). Posta is a member of the Comunità Montana del Velino .

The municipal area extends over an altitude difference of 557 to 2,081 meters above sea level. The districts Bacugno, Favischio, Figino, Fontarello, Picciame, Sigillo, Steccato and Villa Camponeschi belong to the municipality.

The community is located in earthquake zone 1 (highly endangered).

The neighboring municipalities are Borbona , Cittareale , Leonessa , Micigliano and Montereale ( AQ ).

The municipality of Posta is crossed by Via Salaria SS 4, which leads from Rome via Ascoli Piceno to the Adriatic coast near Porto d'Ascoli .

The nearest train station is in Antrodoco on the Terni - Sulmona railway line , 15 km away.

history

The ancient Forum Decii was located on the site of today's Bacugno district.

Today's Posta got its name from the fact that it was actually a post office on Via Salaria.
