Ludwig Lessen (born September 17, 1873 in Lessen , West Prussia ; † February 11, 1943 in Müllrose ), born Louis Salomon, was a German journalist and writer .

Lessen left school early and came to Berlin to complete an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer . Through an internship he got in touch with the Social Democratic Party of Germany . He only worked very briefly in his profession, then began to study history , philosophy and literature . During this time he began to write.

The support of August Bebel enabled the publication of his first poems in " Die Neue Welt " , of which he was a collaborator. In the years 1896 and 1897 he was editor of the "Volksblattes Halle" and the "Chemnitzer Volksstimme" . From 1900 to 1919 Lessen rose to head of the social democratically oriented magazine "Die Neue Welt" . After the paper was discontinued, he published regular reviews in the weekly "Die Neue Zeit" as an editor at Vorwärts-Verlag .

As a poet and journalist, Lessen also worked for the “Wahren Jakob” , and from 1921 he was employed as the editor of the illustrated weekly “Volk und Zeit” in Müllrose. Persecuted by the National Socialists as a Jew and Social Democrat , he was banned from publishing in 1933 . In 1943 he committed suicide and was buried in the Müllrose cemetery.
