Arquata del Tronto is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1059 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Ascoli Piceno in Marche . The municipality is located about 30 kilometers from Ascoli Piceno and belongs to the Comunità montana del Tronto . Part of Arquata del Tronto lies in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park and in the Monti Sibillini National Park . Arquata del Tronto borders the provinces of Perugia and Terni ( Umbria ) and the province of Rimini ( Emilia-Romagna ).

The village was largely destroyed in an earthquake on October 30, 2016.

history

It is doubtful whether a village was founded here during the time of the Sabine settlement. From the 6th century AD, however, there is evidence of a settlement.
