Grottammare is an Italian municipality with 16,124 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Ascoli Piceno in Marche . The place is about 35 kilometers northeast of Ascoli Piceno on the Adriatic Sea . The beach bears the Blue Flag quality mark .
The municipality is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy).
history
The area was already settled in the Stone Age. In the Middle Ages, the area was under the rule of the Benedictine Abbey of Farfa .
traffic
Both the Strada Statale 16 Adriatica and the Autostrada A14 cross the municipality. Grottammare train station is on the Adriatic railway line from Ancona to Pescara .
