Svangaskarð is a sports stadium in the Faroe Islands . The sports facility in Toftir is primarily used for football matches.

History and use

Svangaskarð was built in 1980, but it wasn't until 1991 that a grass area was created as a playing field. This had become necessary because the national football association Fótbóltssamband Føroya had been admitted to UEFA in 1990 and had to have a grass pitch to host competitive matches. The Faroese national team , which initially played on a neutral pitch, played their international matches in the stadium, which had a capacity of almost 5,000 spectators . The club B68 Toftir plays its home games in Faroese league football on the artificial turf field belonging to the sports complex . This offers space for 1,450 spectators.

With the inauguration of Tórsvøllur as a seated stadium located in the capital Tórshavn in 2000, Svangaskarð lost its status as a national stadium .
