The Faroese Football Championship 1995 was held in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was overall the 53rd season. It started on May 14, 1995 and ended on October 15, 1995.

The promoted Sumba / VB and FS Vágar were the 20th and 21st participants in the top division after the introduction of the league game in 1947 . Champion was defending champion GÍ Gøta , who could win the title for the third time in a row and for the fifth time overall. However, NSÍ Runavík had to relegate after two years of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.32 per game. The highest victories were achieved by GÍ Gøta with 6: 1 in the away game against KÍ Klaksvík on the 15th matchday, as well as with a 5-0 B68 Toftir in the home game against FS Vágar on the first matchday, HB Tórshavn in the home match against KÍ Klaksvík on the eighth matchday, HB Tórshavn in the away game against B36 Tórshavn on the tenth game day and B68 Toftir in the away game against NSÍ Runavík on the penultimate game day. The highest-scoring game was completed by FS Vágar and HB Tórshavn. On the second matchday the match ended 3: 5, on the 14th matchday 5: 3, whereby FS Vágar had home rights.

mode

In the 1st Deild , each team played twice against each other on 18 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season was clear as champions of this league, the last team relegated to the 2nd Deild . For the first time, the three-point rule was played. In the newly introduced relegation, the ninth placed also had to play two relegation games against the runner-up of the 2nd Deild to remain in the 1st Deild . For the European Cup season 1996/97, the first Faroese league was subsequently awarded a further qualifying place in the UEFA Cup , for which the fourth-placed moved up.

Season course

Championship decision

B68 Toftir got off to a perfect start to the season with three wins from the first three games, leading to the league lead. The next game was lost at home 2-1 against second-placed HB Tórshavn , so both teams switched places. As a result, B68 also lost the next two games and slipped to fifth place. HB, on the other hand, did not lose the next seven games, and not a single goal was conceded. On the twelfth match day, HB Tórshavn finally suffered their first defeat in the 2-1 away game against GÍ Gøta . After another defeat, the 0-2 at B71 Sandur on matchday 15, HB finally lost the top position to GÍ Gøta. They were still in fifth place on the seventh matchday, but won ten of the remaining eleven games in a draw and thus remained in first place until the end of the season. The decision about the championship was made on the penultimate matchday. The runner-up HB Tórshavn lost his game at KÍ Klaksvík 2-0, while the first-placed GÍ Gøta won 2-0 at B36 Tórshavn and could not be overtaken. GÍ was already ahead with two own goals after 24 minutes, HB conceded both goals in the 50th and 67th minute.

Relegation battle

NSÍ Runavík succeeded on the fourth match day with a 3-1 at Sumba / VB the first victory after all previous games were lost. Nevertheless, it was not possible to move out of the relegation zone, from the fifth match day the penultimate place was occupied. Only on the eleventh matchday could the next win be celebrated with a 1-0 away game against TB Tvøroyri , but NSÍ had to swap places on matchday 13 due to further defeats with Sumba / VB. This place was continuously occupied until the end of the season, as not a single game could be won. The relegation was certain after the 16th matchday. Here NSÍ lost with 1: 5 at GÍ Gøta, the gap to Sumba / VB could not be made up.

Sumba / VB, on the other hand, lost the first seven games of the season and was at the bottom of the table from the fourth matchday on. Only on the eleventh match day was the first three-pointer retracted with a 2-1 away win against KÍ Klaksvík. The next two games could also be won, so that from the 13th matchday on the penultimate place was occupied. Only one of the next games was lost, but the relegation place could not be left, on the tenth day of the game the gap to eighth place was still ten points. On the last day of the match Sumba / VB won 4-1 against TB Tvøroyri. However, since KÍ Klaksvík also won 4-1 away against B71 Sandur at the same time, both teams kept their places. In their game, KÍ was already 2-0 ahead after 15 minutes, Sumba / VB had already achieved this intermediate result after seven minutes.
