history

SÍ Sumba football field

The association was founded on May 21, 1940. SÍ Sumba could not achieve a national championship or cup title here. The club's greatest successes were promotions to the first Faroese league (today Effodeildin , previously 1. Deild ).

1990 SÍ Sumba succeeded for the first time promotion to the top Faroese league. With only five points, the club had to relegate back to the 2nd Deild as bottom of the table in the following year .

When VB Vágur relegated to the 2nd Deild in 1993 and then both clubs in the south of Suðuroy played only second class, both agreed to merge. Thanks to the merger realized in 1994, the same year the company was promoted to Formuladeildin , this time as Sumba / VB . After internal disagreements and a meager ninth place, this project was ended after a year and both clubs separated again. SÍ Sumba was then assigned to the 2nd Deild in the 1996 season .

As early as 1997, however, the championship in the 2nd Deild and thus the renewed promotion was successful . In the following two years, 1998 and 1999, the club managed to come ninth in the table and always win the relegation games.

It wasn't until 2000 that the club had to go into the second division as bottom of the table. From 2001 on SÍ Sumba played in the 2nd Deild and after a seventh place in 2004, he was also in the lower field of the table in 2005. Therefore, in 2005, SÍ reunited with the VB. Together they played as VB / Sumba again in the top league.

Women's soccer

As a founding member of the 1st Deild in Group B, the women's team from SÍ only came in penultimate place and was relegated in the first season. 1987 succeeded the return and with the penultimate place the relegation, a year later followed as the last place the next relegation. From 1992 to 1994 the relegation could always be avoided, in 1995 there was a merger with VB Vágur to Sumba / VB , which resulted in a sixth place. Then the merger was dissolved again, whereupon SÍ came in 1996 only to a single victory. Due to an increase in the league, relegation was suspended, which, however, followed a year later with the last place. 2003 SÍ Sumba returned for the last time in the first division and again finished only in last place. In 2005 there was another merger.
