The Faroese Football Championship 1985 was held in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was the 43rd season overall. It started on April 27, 1985 with NSÍ Runavík's game against GÍ Gøta and ended on September 23, 1984.

Promoted ÍF Fuglafjørður returned to the top division after two years. Champion was defending champion B68 Toftir , who could win the title for the second time. However, ÍF Fuglafjørður had to relegate after a year of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 2.62 per game, which after 1982 meant the second-lowest average in the top division after the introduction of the league game in 1947 . The biggest win achieved GÍ Gøta with a 9-0 in the home game against ÍF Fuglafjørður on the twelfth matchday, which was also the highest-scoring game.

Until the third matchday, HB Tórshavn and TB Tvøroyri led the table with two wins and one draw, tied on points and goals. On the fourth matchday HB conceded with a 1: 4 in the away game against GÍ Gøta the first defeat, while TB could defend the top position with a 1-0 home win against ÍF Fuglafjørður . After two defeats, a 1: 2 in the away game against KÍ Klaksvík and a 2: 4 in the home game against LÍF Leirvík , KÍ Klaksvík took the lead. But even this did not last long and after a 5-0 away defeat against LÍF Leirvík on matchday eight, HB took first place again due to the better goal difference. HB also lost to LÍF on matchday ten, so that for the first time B68 Toftir , who had only lost once by 1: 4 on matchday one in the away game against TB Tvøroyri, was at the top and this was not until the end of the season submitted. The decision about the championship was made on the last match day. B68 was able to win its away game against NSÍ Runavík 1-0, so that the two equal points pursuers could not make up for the deficit of two points.
