The Faroese Football Championship 1982 was held in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was a total of 40th season. It started on April 24, 1982 with B68 Toftir's game against ÍF Fuglafjørður and ended on September 19, 1982.
Promoted LÍF Leirvík was the 16th participant in the top division after the introduction of the league game in 1947 . Champion was defending champion HB Tórshavn , who could win the title for the twelfth time. However, ÍF Fuglafjørður had to relegate for the first time as a founding member of 1. Deild .
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 2.61 per game, which meant the lowest average in the top division after the introduction of the league game in 1947 and has not yet been undercut. The biggest win was achieved by B68 Toftir 5-0 in the away game against LÍF Leirvík on the last day of the match. The highest-scoring game was completed by TB Tvøroyri and B68 Toftir with a 5-2 on match day 12.

Championship decision
HB Tórshavn was tied with the leaders in third place on the first two matchdays and took the lead on matchday three with a 4-0 win against first-placed GÍ Gøta , as the second B36 Tórshavn did not have a 0-0 away game against B68 Toftir got out. HB was able to claim first place until matchday eight, when the away game against direct pursuer KÍ Klaksvík was lost 0-1 and KÍ took the lead due to the better goal difference. But already on the next match day KÍ Klaksvík conceded a 0-2 away defeat against 68 Toftir, so that HB Tórshavn was able to overtake with a 4-2 home win against B36 Tórshavn. This position could not be taken by HB with four wins from the last five games. The decision about the championship was made on the last match day. HB was able to extend its lead with a 2-1 home game against ÍF Fuglafjørður , as KÍ Klaksvík lost 3-1 at TB Tvøroyri .
Relegation battle
LÍF Leirvík only got two draws from the first seven games, so that from the third matchday on the last place was to book. With two wins, a 1-0 home game against GÍ Gøta and a 3-1 away game against ÍF Fuglafjørður, it was abandoned on the ninth matchday, which meant that ÍF slipped to last place, which up to this point had only won 2 : 0 won the away game against B36 Tórshavn on matchday four. Against the same opponent on the eleventh matchday, a 3-1 victory resulted in the second victory and the jump to seventh place, level on points with eighth-placed B68 Toftir, who only had two wins. Until the last matchday it stayed with this table constellation, with ÍF at least on the penultimate matchday a 0-0 at home against TB Tvøroyri reached. The last game, however, was lost with 1: 2 against HB Tórshavn, while B68 was victorious in the away game with 5: 0 LÍF Leirvík and could still achieve relegation.
