The Faroese Football Championship in 1990 was held in the 1st Deild called first Faroese league and was overall the 48th season. It started on April 29, 1990 and ended on September 30, 1990.
The promoted MB Miðvágur and TB Tvøroyri returned to the top division after six and one year respectively. Champion HB Tórshavn , which could thus win the title for the 14th time. However, SÍF Sandavágur and defending champion B71 Sandur had to relegate after two years of first class. Only in 1988 , TB Tvøroyri, had to relegate the previous year's champion.
Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 2.89 per game. GÍ Gøta scored the highest victory in a 7-1 home game against KÍ Klaksvík on matchday two. The highest-scoring game was between KÍ Klaksvík and MB Miðvágur on matchday eight, which ended 6: 5.

In the 1st Deild , each team played twice against each other on 18 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season was the champions of this league, the last two teams were relegated to the 2nd Deild .
Season course
Championship decision
GÍ Gøta lost the first game away with 1: 2 at TB Tvøroyri , but was able to conquer the championship lead with two consecutive wins. With a 3-3 draw against their direct rival HB Tórshavn , TB Tvøroyri, who had previously placed third, who only lost 2-0 at SÍF Sandavágur on matchday two, passed both teams. The fifth matchday brought another change at the top, as TB lost their away game with 0: 1 at B68 Toftir . Now GÍ was at the top again, but after that the lead always changed with HB after each round, who were consistently in first place from the eighth game day and did not give up this position. The decision for the championship fell on the 16th matchday by a 3-0 away win by HB against KÍ Klaksvík , which could thus maintain the lead of five points over the new second B36 Tórshavn .
Relegation battle
SÍF Sandavágur was in the lower half of the table from the start. Up to and including the fourth day of the game, the points ratio was balanced, but only two more wins from the following ten games let the team fall back to the bottom of the table, which was consistently occupied from the seventh game day. However, the distance to the saving places could be kept small and three wins in a row from the 15th matchday onwards led to leaving the relegation zone.
The reigning champions B71 Sandur started the season well with three points from the first two games. In the following six games, however, failed to win, which resulted in the crash to the penultimate place. There were still individual victories, but the team always fluctuated between eighth and ninth place.
VB Vágur could only achieve one win from the first six games and was thus at the bottom of the table. However, two victories catapulted the team to fourth place, which should remain the highest ranking of the season. On the twelfth match day, the last place was again on the books, which could be abandoned after three wins in a row. Nevertheless, VB had to tremble about staying up until the last match day, the lead was only two points with a slightly better goal difference.
TB Tvøroyri found himself at the top of the table after three wins and one defeat after the fourth game day. This was followed by a steady relegation, so from the next six games only one victory succeeded, which resulted in the penultimate place. This could indeed be left with two consecutive wins, but five subsequent winless games led to a fall to the bottom of the table.
On the last day of the match SÍF Sandavágur needed one point to avoid relegation, but this was not achieved in the 2-0 home game against GÍ Gøta, so the results of the other games had to be looked at. The tied team of VB Vágur managed a 2-0 away win against KÍ Klaksvík, which they had nothing to do with relegation. B71 Sandur met TB Tvøroyri on the last day of the match. Both teams were tied at the bottom of the table, a win would mean the jump to eighth place, a draw would have resulted in the relegation of both teams. In the end, TB prevailed with a 2: 0, B71 slipped to the last place, SIF took the penultimate place.
