Vodafonedeildin 2009

The Faroese Football Championship 2010 was played in the Vodafonedeildin called first Faroese league and was overall the 68th season. It should originally be started on March 31, 2010 with the game of NSÍ Runavík against ÍF Fuglafjørður , but this had to be canceled after 15 minutes due to snowfall. The first matchday was finally played on April 1st, and the season ended on October 23rd, 2010.

The promoted FC Suðuroy and B71 Sandur returned to the top division after one and two years respectively. With AB Argir , B36 Tórshavn and HB Tórshavn , three clubs from the same city played in the first division (Argir was incorporated into Tórshavn in 1997). Champion was defending champion HB Tórshavn, who could win the title for the 21st time. However, FC Suðuroy and AB Argir had to relegate after one and two years respectively.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 3.24 per game. NSÍ Runavík achieved the highest victories with a 9-1 home game against B71 Sandur on the last day of the match, which was also the highest-scoring game, and EB / Streymur with an 8-0 home win against B71 Sandur on the 17th game day.

mode

In the Vodafonedeildin , each team played three times against each other on 27 match days. Due to the previous year's placement, HB Tórshavn , EB / Streymur , Víkingur Gøta , NSÍ Runavík and B68 Toftir played an additional home game. The team with the best points at the end of the season was clear as the champions of this league, the last two teams relegated to the 1st Deild , the Faroese second division.

15th matchday

The 15th matchday offered a special feature. Only one game, ÍF Fuglafjördur against AB Argir, took place on July 3rd, on schedule between the 14th and 16th matchday. The other four games did not take place until August 28, between the 19th and 20th matchdays.

Season course

Championship decision

HB Tórshavn started the season with only two draws. With five wins in a row, however, the championship lead could be taken over by B36 Tórshavn , who after three wins at the beginning of the season could not win nine games in a row and thus slipped to sixth place. With one exception, HB was able to hold the table lead until matchday 11. With a 1-1 draw at AB Argir , NSÍ Runavík took the lead, who climbed from last to first place after just one point from the first four games with nine wins in a row. On matchday 18, the lead was already seven points. The next five games could not be won, however, at the same time HB get four wins in this period, whereupon the table leadership changed again. On the 24th matchday NSÍ succeeded again with a 2-1 against AB Argir the jump to the top, afterwards by two further defeats beside HB also EB / Streymur passed NSÍ. The championship was finally decided on the last day of the game. HB Tórshavn won as leader of the table with 2: 1 against B36 Tórshavn and thus maintained the lead over the runner-up EB / Streymur, who won their game with 3: 1 against B68 Toftir .

Relegation battle

AB Argir was in the relegation zone for almost the entire season, the only exceptions being the third and fourth matchdays, which were spent in eighth place. The first win of the season was only achieved on the ninth matchday with a 1-0 win against the later relegated FC Suðuroy , the second win of the season only followed on the last matchday against the same opponent, this game also ended 1-0. After the 24th matchday, AB was the first to be relegated. The away game on this match day against NSÍ Runavík was lost 2-1, so the deficit on eight-placed B71 Sandur could not be made up.

The second relegated FC Suðuroy started with five points from the first four games and was initially in sixth place. This was followed by nine games without a win, which led to the crash to last place. Four wins followed in the last 14 games, but only improved to ninth place. On the last day of the game, the relegation was finally certain. Although eighth-placed B71 Sandur lost their away game at NSÍ Runavík 9-1, this was enough for B71 to stay in the league, as FC Suðuroy lost 0-1 at AB Argir, where a draw would have been enough for eighth place. The decisive goal was scored in the 67th minute by Tróndur Sigurðsson with a penalty.
