Effodeildin 2017

The Faroese Football Championship 2018 was the 76th season of the Faroese football league . After the departure of the main sponsor Effo , the league no longer operates under the name Effodeildin . As a new sponsor, Betri Banki was announced on December 15, 2017 , so that the league has been called Betrideildin since this season . It started on March 11, 2018 and ended on October 27, 2018.

The only promoted AB Argir returned after a year in the top division. Champion HB Tórshavn , which could thus win the title for the 23rd time. Defending champion Víkingur Gøta ended up in fifth place. On the other hand, 07 Vestur had to relegate after two years of first class.

Compared to the previous season, the goal rate worsened to 2.97 per game, which was the lowest average since 2008 . The highest victories achieved NSÍ Runavík with a 7: 1 in the home game against 07 Vestur on the 24th matchday, which was also the highest goal game, and with a 6-0 in the home game against AB Argir on the 13th matchday.

mode

In the Betrideildin , each team played against each other three times on 27 match days. The team with the best points at the end of the season was champions and takes part in the qualification for the Champions League, while the team that placed last was relegated to 1. Deild , the Faroese second division. Since there was only one A-team in the first three places in the 1st Deild , there was only one relegated team.

Season course

Championship decision

KÍ Klaksvík won six of the first seven games, including a 3-0 away win against direct rivals HB Tórshavn on Matchday 1 . After two defeats, a 2: 3 at B36 Tórshavn and a 1: 2 at home against Víkingur Gøta , HB Tórshavn took over the top of the table and did not give it up until the end of the season. There was only one defeat on the 16th matchday in the home game against NSÍ Runavík , which was lost 2-0, otherwise HB won all remaining games. The decision for the championship was made on the 23rd match day by a 2-1 away win at the then runner-up KÍ Klaksvík. With 73 points from 27 games and 18 points ahead, HB set new records.

Relegation battle

07 Vestur took one of the last two places from the second match day, and from the third to the 18th match day only the last. After a 1-1 away game at AB Argir , there were ten defeats in a row before the first victory succeeded with a 4-1 in the home game against Skála ÍF . With further victories against AB Argir and Víkingur Gøta, the leap to ninth place was achieved in the meantime. By the end of the season there was a close battle with AB Argir and positions were swapped three more times.
