Ekstraklasa 2016/17

The Ekstraklasa 2017/18 was the 84th season of the top Polish football league of men since its founding in 1927. A total of sixteen teams participated in the season 2017/18.

The season began on July 14, 2017 and ended on May 20, 2018. From December 19, 2017 to February 8, 2018, it was interrupted by a shortened winter break .

The champions qualified for the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League , second place and third place for the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League . The last two clubs were relegated to the first division . For the first time in the club's history, Sandecja Nowy Sącz and Górnik Zabrze, which rose directly after relegation in 2015/16, were promoted from the second Polish league .

Season course

The game Lech Poznan against Legia Warsaw on the last day of the final round was rated 3-0 for Warsaw after the game was abandoned at the green table, after Lech supporters stormed the pitch when the score was 2-0 and detonated smoke bombs to prevent the capitals win the championship in their stadium. With this decision Legia Warsaw finally won the championship title.

    1 Lechia Gdańsk was deducted 1 point for a license violation during the current season.
    2Górnik Zabrze were deducted 3 points after riots in the game against Piast Gliwice. The objection against this was granted on March 22, 2018 and the points were credited again.

    3 The encounter on May 20, 2018 was canceled when the score was 0: 2 in the 77th minute of the game after supporters of Lech Posen initially threw dozens of Bengalos onto the field and then carried out a storm . The next day the game was rated 0: 3 in the first instance and Legia Warsaw was declared the Polish champions. The Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on the competent authorities of the Greater Poland Voivodeship to take decisive action against the fans of Lech Poznan. On the same day, they sentenced Lech Posen to a total of eight ghost games , five in the coming Ekstraklasa season and three in the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League . Three days later, on May 24, 2018, the Polish Football Association PZPN announced its verdict against Lech Posen. The club received the largest fines ever imposed to date, amounting to 120,000 złoty , the equivalent of around 28,000 euros , and its fans were banned from all away games of the club for the entire 2018/19 season. In addition, Lech Posen has to play another home game without its own supporters. The fans involved in the riots were banned from the stadium for three games.

    Relegation round

    The teams in places 9 to 16 of the preliminary round reached the relegation round. After the end of the round, the last two were relegated to the second-class first division .
