Korona Kielce (officially Sportowa Spółka Akcyjna Korona Kielce ) is a Polish football club from the city of Kielce in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship . Corona, the crown, is the symbol of the city and the association. The club plays its home games in the Suzuki Arena , which has 15,550 seats.
history
The club was founded on July 10, 1973 when the two Kielc clubs Iskra and SHL merged. 1975 Korona Kielce rose for the first time in the second Polish league, but could not prevail and rose again. From 1982 to 1990 the club played again in the second division. In 1996, Nida Gips Korona took over and the name was changed to Miejski Klub Sportowy Sekcja Futbolowa Korona . This was followed by another year in the second division in 1998/99 and another relegation. A year later, the club merged with another team in the city - Błękitni Kielce - and was renamed Kielecki Klub Piłkarski Korona . In 2002 the Polish press distribution company Kolporter SA became a sponsor of the association. Within four years, the club has now moved from the third division to the Ekstraklasa - Poland's top division. Since then, the club has been seen as a great prospect by many Polish players. In the first two years of membership in the first division alone, five players from the team were appointed to the Polish national football team. Due to their offensive style of play, they are considered the most attractive team in the Ekstraklasa and their games are regularly broadcast on Polish television. This promotes the already good financial situation of the club even further. After the 2008 season, the club had to relegate to the second-rate first division because of its involvement in a corruption affair. At the end of the 2008/09 season - through the withdrawal of the license for Widzew Lodz - the direct return to the Ekstraklasa.
On April 11, 2017 Dieter Burdenski - ex- Werder Bremen goalkeeper - took over the majority of the club and paid EUR 850,000 for 72 percent of the shares; the remaining shares remained with the city of Kielce. Burdenski would like to build up the association in the long term. The contact was made by the former Oldenburg captain and friend Krzysztof Zajac , who is also the new president of the club. Dominic Niehoff was hired as managing director.
After the 2019/20 season, however , Kielce rose again to the first division .
