Piotr Jarosław Świerczewski (born April 8, 1972 in Nowy Sącz , Poland ) is a former Polish football player and current coach .

career

The defensive midfielder began his career in his hometown with Sandecja Nowy Sącz and later with Dunajec Nowy Sącz in the Polish amateur league. In 1989 he moved to GKS Katowice in the Ekstraklasa . Here he played a total of five seasons and became a national player. In 1993 Świerczewski moved to France for AS Saint-Étienne . He played a total of ten seasons in France for AS Saint-Étienne, SC Bastia and Olympique Marseille (with a one-year break at Gamba Osaka in Japan ) and scored 15 goals in 278 Ligue 1 games .

In 2003 Świerczewski moved to Birmingham City in England . Here he was unable to gain a foothold due to an injury and went to Poland for the winter break . Here he played from 2003 for Lech Poznań , Cracovia Kraków , Korona Kielce , Groclin Grodzisk , Polonia Warszawa and Łódzki KS in the Ekstraklasa and at the end of his career with two amateur clubs.

Since 2011 he has also worked as a coach, first in the Polish 2nd division at Znicz Pruszków and Łódzki KS , then from 2012 to 2013 at Motor Lublin in the 3rd division. Since May 2014 he has been a trainer at Znicz Pruszków again.

His older brother Marek Świerczewski was also a soccer player and played for Wisła Kraków , GKS Katowice , SK Sturm Graz , FK Austria Wien and VfB Admira Wacker Mödling , among others . He also played a total of six times for the Polish national team.
