Zagłębie Lubin (officially: KGHM Zagłębie Lubin Spółka Akcyjna ) is a Polish football club from Lubin in Lower Silesia , which plays in the highest Polish league, the Ekstraklasa .

Club history

The association was founded on September 10, 1946. Zagłębie has had a close partnership with the current main sponsor KGHM Polska Miedź since the 1970s .

Since the club was founded, the greatest successes in the club's history have been winning the championship title in 1991 and 2007 .

After the club was demoted on January 24, 2008 due to involvement in a corruption affair and started in the 2008/09 season in the 2nd Polish league with 10 points behind, he managed to rise again as runner-up.

The club has played its home games in the Zagłębie Lubin Stadium since March 2009 , which has 16,068 seats for fans. For safety reasons, the old stadium from 1985 , which was in great need of renovation , only allowed 7,000 instead of the maximum capacity of 30,000 spectators.

Known players

Fans

KKsektorG.jpg

The Ultras from Zagłębie, who call themselves “Orange City Boys” , are close and have long been friends with the “Arkowcy” (fans of Arka Gdynia ) and the fans of Polonia Bytom . The ultras are particularly hostile to their Silesian neighbor Śląsk Wrocław , so the derbies are regularly risky games. The Miedź Legnica football club, 15 km away, rivals both the club and the Zagłębie fans.

Others

The team of Zagłębie Lubin calls itself "Miedziowi" which means the copper ones in German . The name can be traced back to the fact that many fans and players were employed by KGHM's copper mines in the early years of the club.

The mascot of the "Miedziowi" is the mole "Krecik" from the children's series The Little Mole .

The anthem of the association is the song "Na Zawsze" (in English forever) by the Polish band Eliteboys .

Zagłębie is in eleventh place in the Ekstraklasa all-time table .
