The 1st league in 2008/09 was the 61st season of the second highest Polish men's soccer division, which was called the 2nd league until the preseason. The season began on July 26, 2008 and ended on June 5, 2009. A total of eighteen clubs took part.

Relegated from the Ekstraklasa were Zagłębie Lubin , Korona Kielce and Widzew Łódź . Newcomers from the third Polish division were Dolcan Ząbki , Flota Świnoujście , Górnik Łęczna and GKP Gorzów Wielkopolski .

    Remarks:
    1 Widzew Łódź was moved down a class due to a corruption scandal and thus remained in the first division, instead the third-placed Korona Kielce rose to the Ekstraklasa.
    2 GKS 1962 Jastrzębie did not get a license for the next season, the free place was taken over by the sporty Fifteenth Motor Lublin .
    3 Kmita Zabierzów retired after the winter break.

    Relegation

    The relegation games between the two third-placed players in the two seasons of the 2nd division and the thirteenth and fourteenth of the 1st division took place on June 9th and 12th, 2009.
