The 2nd league in 1988/89 was the 41st season of the second highest Polish men's soccer division. It started in July 1988 and ended in June 1989.

mode

The 32 teams were divided into two groups of 16 teams each. These played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a round trip. The two group winners went straight to the first division . The runners-up were able to qualify for the first division via the play-offs.

The last six clubs were relegated directly to the third division . The teams in places 7 to 10 played in the relegation against relegation. The league became single track the following season.

The team that won by three goals or more received an extra point, while one point was deducted from the losing team.
