GKS Tychy is a Polish soccer team from Tychy . The football department belonging to the sports club of the same name has been playing in the second-rate first division since the 2016/17 season .

history

In addition to the extremely successful ice hockey department , the soccer department of GKS Tychy is one of the two oldest and largest of the sports club from the city in the south of the Silesian Voivodeship . The biggest success of the football department, founded in 1971, has been the Polish runner-up in 1976.

In the 1976/77 season, GKS Tychy also qualified as Polish runner-up for the first round of the UEFA Cup . In it, the soccer team met 1. FC Köln , against whom they lost 2-0 away and drew 1-1 at home. The home game, which attracted 15,000 spectators, took place in the Silesian Stadium in neighboring Chorzów due to UEFA regulations .

In the seasons 1983/84, 2004/05 and 2006/07 the GKS Tychy succeeded in winning the regional Silesian association cup.

After numerous financially-related relegations and restructuring, the GKS Tychy football team played again in the second highest Polish division, the 1st division, from the 2012/13 season . In the 2014/15 season she was briefly relegated to the third-class 2nd division , but managed to get promoted again immediately. The home football matches are played in the Miejski stadium with a capacity of 12,000 . Successful former players include the two former Polish national players Jerzy Dudek and Bartosz Karwan . The futsal department of GKS Tychy , founded in 1995, rose to the top division of Polish futsal in 2006 .
