The Julita Monastery (also Säby , Saba in Latin ) is a former Cistercian monastery in Sweden . The monastery was in Södermanland in the municipality of Katrineholm .
history
The monastery was founded around 1160 as a subsidiary of the Alvastra monastery from the affiliation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey in Viby near Sigtuna . Thanks to a donation from King Knut Eriksson , it was relocated to Säby (hence the Latin name Saba) on Lake Öljaren in the Julita parish around 1180. The monastery was expropriated during the Reformation in 1527 and then demolished.
Buildings and plant
The monastery church was rebuilt after a fire in 1382. The monastery was located south of the existing mansion, built around 1670, the church partially under the south wing of the current corps de logis. The western end of the earlier Konversen building is still preserved in the current manor house.
