The Stadion Miejski w Tychach ( German  Städtisches Stadion in Tichau ) is a football stadium in the Polish city of Tychy in the south of the Silesian Voivodeship . The former stadium with an athletics facility was used by the GKS Tychy football club from 1971 to 2012 . Then the stadium was demolished and replaced by a modern new building. In the meantime, the GKS Tychy moved to the Sportowy "Victoria" stadium in Jaworzno . After the redesign, the municipal stadium will offer 15,150 covered seats (14,057 grandstand seats, 843 VIP seats and 100 seats in the boxes ). There are also 26 wheelchair-accessible spaces. In addition to GKS Tychy football games, the Tychy Falcons American football team also plays in the stadium on special occasions .

history

Construction of the old stadium began in 1967 and when it was completed in 1970 it offered 20,000 spectators. The venue only had a roof on the main stand and there was no floodlight system . In the mid-1970s, up to 30,000 spectators filled the sports facility. In the final phase there were still 12,000 seats, of which only around 2,620 were seats.

The new stadium will be a soccer arena without an athletics facility with completely covered stands. The playing field in the standard size of 105 × 68 meters will have turf heating , an irrigation system and a drainage system . In addition to football games, concerts and other events are to take place. The preparatory work for the stadium construction turned out to be difficult. In 2010, the first plans for a football stadium with 18,000 seats for 120 million  zł were presented. The first tendering process was launched in 2011, but it was canceled due to formal errors.

A second attempt in February 2012 resulted in the bid of the cheapest competitor doubling the financial framework set by the city of Tychy. The city had to lower its specifications to make the construction possible. The most drastic changes were the reduction in capacity by 3,000 spaces and the elimination of the planned underground car park . The third and final tender was launched in August 2012. The construction company Mostostal Warszawa SA from the capital Warsaw was selected , which placed a bid of 128,873,225.62 zł ( gross ). On December 11, 2012, the building contracts were signed by Tyski Sport SA and Mostostal Warszawa SA.

The stadium design comes from the Perbo project Biuro Architektoniczne from Krakow . At the end of February 2013, demolition work began on the old Miejski stadium . The old concrete stands and the stadium building were demolished by April of that year. Meanwhile, the architects revised the building plans based on the city's savings. The last clearing work was carried out in mid-June 2013 and the laying of the concrete foundations for the new home of GKS Tychy could begin. The construction, which cost 128.9 million zł, was completed in 30 months. The stadium was inaugurated with a test match against 1. FC Köln (0-1), a re-edition of the first round of the 1976/77 UEFA Cup . The new Miejski stadium meets the requirements of both FIFA and UEFA and is classified in UEFA stadium category 3 .

After around two years of construction, the new venue opened on July 18, 2015 with the game GKS Tychy against 1. FC Köln . The GKS lost to the 1st FC with 0: 1. Advance ticket sales for the opening began on June 23, 2015 and within one day the 15,068 tickets for the game were sold. The events for the stadium inauguration continue on July 19th and a. with a family picnic and a youth soccer tournament.

In June 2017, the soccer arena was one of the venues for the U-21 soccer championship . There were three group matches and a semi-final.
