The football department has existed since the club was founded in 1944. From 1953 to 1957 they played in the third highest division, before being promoted to the second division in 1957. Five years later - in 1962 - the team rose again. Stal played in the first division for ten years, but never got beyond seventh place and often played against relegation. In 1972 the relegation could not be averted, but the club only stayed in the second division for three years and rose again in 1975. In addition, the Polish Football Cup was won . But after a year of membership in the first division, the descent took place again in 1976 . In the same year, however, Stal made it to the round of 16 in the European Cup Winners' Cup and was only eliminated against AFC Wrexham . But it got much worse, in 1977 the blue-whites had to go into the third division. Stal became an "elevator team" and shuttled back and forth between the second and third division. From 1987 to 1994, the club was an integral part of the second division, before after four years of third division in 1998 with relegation to the fourth division, the temporary low was reached. A year later, the promotion succeeded and since 2002 the team was again an integral part of the 3rd division and always achieved good placements. In the 2008/09 season, the club was promoted to the 2nd division . In the 2013/14 season he was relegated back to the 3rd division. In the 2014/15 season he was first, but failed in the promotion games to Olimpia Zambrów . In 2019 the club rose to the 2nd division.
