Pszów (German Pschow ) is a city in the powiat Wodzisławski , Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

Pszów is 51 kilometers southwest of Katowice and seven kilometers northwest of the district town of Wodzisław Śląski .

The municipality has an area of ​​20.42 square kilometers, of which 62 percent is used for agriculture and 14 percent of the area is covered with forest.

history

The first written mention of a settlement on this site was in 973. In 1265 the name Pszów was mentioned for the first time. The existence of a first wooden church is documented in 1293, and a second stone church was mentioned around 1350. Around 1544, Wacław Siedlicki introduced the Lutheran creed. In 1628 the Catholic faith was reintroduced. In 1692 there is the first written mention of a school and in 1696 a tavern. In 1722 a copy of the Black Madonna was brought to Pszów from Czestochowa . The late Baroque pilgrimage church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary was built from 1743 to 1746 .

Until the First World War

In 1802 the production of potash and lime started. In 1832 a kiln and a steam mill were built for the lime industry. The first permit to mine coal was given to Augustine Ferdinand Fritz. In 1843 the Anna hard coal mine went into operation. In 1848 the nearby mining village became independent under the name Pschower Dollen . In 1856 a fire destroyed part of the village of Pschow. In 1882 the first cable car was built in present-day Poland from the Anna pit to the train station in Czernitz . In 1885 the road from Czernitz to Rydultau and Pschow to the city of Loslau was built . In 1901 the road to Syrin was built. In 1904, Count Jan Węgierski Pschow and Kokoschütz sold to the Polish Bank in Poznan . In 1905 a miners' settlement was built near the Anna mine. In 1910 the parish hall was built, which today houses the town hall. In 1914 the railway line from the Anna pit to Olsau was built.

Between the wars until today

After the referendum in Upper Silesia in 1921, Pszów was assigned to the Polish so-called East Upper Silesia in 1922 and belonged to the Autonomous Voivodeship of Silesia . After the invasion of Poland in September 1939, Pszów came under German administration, contrary to international law , with the invasion of the Wehrmacht . In 1945 the city became Polish again. 1954 Pszów received city rights. In 1975 Pszów was incorporated into Wodzisław Śląski . In 1995 Pszów became an independent municipality again. In 1997 the pilgrimage church was raised to the rank of minor basilica .

From 1975 to 1998 Pszów was part of the Katowice Voivodeship .

There are three kindergartens ( Przedszkole ), three elementary schools ( Szkoła Podstawowa ), a middle school ( Gimnazjum ) and a vocational school in the city.
