Carl Szmula

Carl Szmula (born May 12, 1828 in Pschow , Rybnik district ; † December 27, 1890 in Zabrze , Zabrze district , Silesia province ) was a German doctor.

Life

He attended high schools in Leobschütz , Brieg and Neisse . After graduating from high school in Neisse (1847), he began to study medicine at the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University in Breslau . In the Corps Silesia he distinguished himself as a sub- senior , consenior and senior . He gained historical importance when he represented the Seniors 'Convent in Breslau in June / July 1848 when the Kösener Seniors' Convents Association was founded . He moved to the Georg-August University of Göttingen and also joined the Corps Saxo-Borussia (1850/51). After all, he was at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin , where he passed the state exams. Friedrich Wöhler in Göttingen and Eilhard Mitscherlich in Berlin had fascinated him . He gave up his academic career and became a general practitioner in Tost , Beuthen and Laurahütte . From 1858 he stayed in Zabrze. In 1862 he went to Vienna for half a year to study ophthalmology. He participated in the German War as a first-class assistant doctor. During the Franco-Prussian War he was medical officer and leader of the hospital No. 7. The Order of St. John gave him a large operating case for his services as an operator . On the day the Reich was founded, he was appointed to the Royal Medical Council. Since 1873 district physician , since 1875 he was senior physician of the Upper Silesian Knappschaftsverein.

He took part in international congresses and in the meetings of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors . From 1887 he sat on the business committee of the German General German Medical Association. From 1889 he was a member of the Silesian Society for Patriotic Culture . He died at the age of 62 and was buried with great sympathy by Zabrze's residents.
