January Banaś (* 29. March 1943 in Berlin as Heinz-Dieter Banas ) is a former Polish football player with German roots .
biography
Banaś was born as the son of a German father under the name Heinz-Dieter Banas in 1943 in Berlin. The parents were separated due to the Second World War . The father found his wife and Jan Banaś by reading his name in the sports press. In 1965, Banaś , who was then playing for Polonia Bytom , defeated himself in a game in Sweden in the Federal Republic of Germany . The initiator of this action was his father, who lives in the Upper Franconian court . Due to the lack of approval, he was banned by FIFA for two years after the Polish association informed the world football association.
The SpVgg Hof should be the club where Banaś trained. The Hofer's club president referred him to 1. FC Köln to improve the club's budget. A contract was not signed because Polonia Bytom refused to release it. So there were only training sessions at 1. FC Köln; in training games with the reserve team against the first team, he contributed to victories of the second representation. The contract with 1. FC Köln led to a family dispute; Banaś 'father asked for part of the monthly wages for himself. Because of the family quarrel as well as the sporting situation, Banaś returned to what was then the People's Republic of Poland after almost two years . In the press in Poland this was seen as a victory for socialism over capitalism .
Banaś played again for Polonia Bytom and again for the Polish national team . In qualifying for the 1974 World Cup finals in (West) Germany , Poland won their first game against England in Chorzów 2-0 thanks to a goal from Banaś . As a result, both teams delivered a long-distance duel for group victory; With a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium in London , the Polish national team qualified for participation in the World Cup in Germany . Since both the PZPN and the party feared that Banaś might break away again, he was not allowed to participate.
