Andrzej Szarmach (born October 3, 1950 in Danzig ) is a former Polish football player and coach . The national player was nicknamed "the devil" during his career.
Player career
societies
As a junior, the striker began at Polonia Gdańsk, from which he moved to the second division Arka Gdynia in 1970 . He quickly became the "horror of the goalkeepers " and with 15 goals in 1972 top scorer. This year, those responsible for the top Polish club Górnik Zabrze became aware of Szarmach; there he played until 1976 and became a national player during this time. Then FKS Stal Mielec signed him , where he stayed for another four years.
In 1980 Andrzej Szarmach moved to France , where he was under contract with AJ Auxerre (1980–1985), EA Guingamp (1985–1987) and Clermont FC (1987–1989, as a player-coach). In 1981 and 1982 he was named the best foreign player in Division 1 by France Football magazine .
In the Polish league he scored a total of 109 goals, in the French in 148 first division games 94 goals. Three times in a row (1982-1984) he was the second best scorer in the French league.
National team
Between 1973 and 1982 he wore the Polish national jersey 61 times and scored 32 goals. He took part in three world championships ( in Germany , Argentina and Spain ), and came third twice with Poland (1974 and 1982). He also won the silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , where he was also the top scorer.
Coaching stations
After the end of his playing days he tried his hand at French ( Clermont Foot Auvergne , LB Châteauroux , AS Angoulême , FC Aurillac) and Polish ( Zagłębie Lubin ) clubs, but without any notable success.
