The Little Mole is a Czech cartoon series . It was created in 1957 by the Prague draftsman Zdeněk Miler (1921–2011). In the original Czech version, the mole is called Krtek (Czech. "Mole") or Krteček (Czech. " Mole "). In Germany, the series was first broadcast in January 1968 by Das Erste. It was later repeated by KiKA , WDR , ORF 1 and SRF 1 .

History of origin

Miler was looking for a cartoon character for a film about the processing of flax and, according to legend, stumbled upon a molehill . This is how the film How the Mole Got His Pants , with which Miler won the Silver Lion in Venice , came about . The little mole's best friends are the rabbit , the hedgehog and the mouse . In the films, life in nature is juxtaposed with the urban environment, as well as the naive, childlike life of animals with everyday life. At first the mole still spoke, later not anymore, so that it could be understood all over the world.

Since 1963 the mole was regularly seen on Czechoslovak and later Czech television . He was the star of the Czech children's show Večerníček . The little mole was a success in a total of 80 countries around the world. The figure became known in the Federal Republic of Germany through Die Sendung mit der Maus . He ran on GDR television , as on Czechoslovak television, in the program Our Sandman . In a video edition it was partly called Pauli . Most recently, in 2002, a full- length cartoon of the little mole was made, which is a compilation of the first twelve episodes.

The music was composed by Miloš Vacek, from 1974 by Vadim Petrov .

The little mole flew on board the space shuttle Endeavor on his last mission : The American astronaut Andrew Jay Feustel took a plush version of the mole with him, which he presented to Zdeněk Miler on his return.
