Zbigniew Szewczyk (born November 29, 1967 in Bolesławiec ) is a former Polish football player and currently coach at the regional league club VfL Essingen.

Career

In 1987, Szewczyk moved from the U-19 to the professional team of Zagłębie Lubin. He played for the club until 1993, he became Polish champion in 1991. In the following season he played a game against Brøndby IF in the European Cup , but this was lost 3-0. In 1993 he moved to Germany for SV Meppen , he played in the 2nd division until 1997. In 1997 he moved to the regional league for Tennis Borussia Berlin, and he was promoted in the first season. In the 1998/99 season he reached the quarter-finals in the DFB Cup with Berlin , where, after victories against Hannover 96 (1-0), Stuttgarter Kickers (4-2) and Hertha BSC (4-2), they only beat the eventual cup winners SV Werder Bremen was eliminated from the competition with 1: 2. In 2000 he returned to Zaglebie Lubin. In the 2002/03 season he moved to KS Polkowice and played his last season.

Trainer

In 2006 he became assistant coach at Chrobry Nowogrodziec, he even laced his shoes again and was on the field again on August 23, 2006 in the game against Ruch Chorzów , the game was lost 5-0 at home. After a year break, he became a trainer in Germany at SpVgg Edenkoben in 2009 . Since 2011 he has been a coach at the regional league club VfL Essingen .

His son Maciej Szewczyk is also a football player and was under contract with Widzew Łódź , among others . Son Thomas Szewczyk started a basketball career .
