The 1st league in 1962 was the 28th season of the highest Polish men's soccer division . The season started on March 11th and ended on July 11th, 1962.

mode

The 14 teams were divided into two groups. In group 1, the teams that occupied places 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 of the previous season played, as well as the clubs with the even placements in group 2. On twelve match days, each team competed twice against each other.

The equally ranked teams from the two groups then competed against each other in the placement games. The first two thus played the championship title. The last teams in each case were relegated. The following season was changed from the calendar year rhythm to autumn-spring.

From this season, the goal difference was used instead of the goal quotient in the event of a tie .
