Mikko Sumusalo (born March 12, 1990 in Porvoo ) is a Finnish football player .

Career

society

Sumusalo played in the senior division for Klubi 04 from Helsinki. After two years he moved to city rivals HJK Helsinki . In the Finnish first division, the Veikkausliiga , he made his debut on May 25, 2009, the 7th matchday. In the 1-0 win over FC Lahti , he came on for Sebastian Sorsa in the 90th minute . With Helsinki he played several games in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League and in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League . Among other things, he was in the 1: 6 defeat against FC Schalke 04 in the Europa League qualification on August 25, 2011 on the field. He was Finnish champion with HJK Helsinki in 2009 , 2010 and 2011 and won the Finnish Cup in 2011 .

In January 2014, the full-back moved to the German third division club RB Leipzig on a free transfer . He received a contract here until the summer of 2016. Sumusalo had to struggle with an ankle sprain for the first few weeks in Leipzig and could not prevail in the remaining 2013/14 season . Up to and including the penultimate match day, he only played a short game at SSV Jahn Regensburg . After the mathematically established promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga , he was in the starting lineup for the first time on the last day of the game. In the summer of 2014, Sumusalo struggled with thigh problems and only made a few appearances in the second team. In the friendly game in November he was injured again (torn ligament in the tarsus) and was out until the winter break. So he did not play a second division game for Leipzig.

At the end of the 2014/15 winter break, Sumusalo was loaned to third division Hansa Rostock for the second half of the season. Just one day after his engagement, he played the first competitive game for the Hanseatic League. Sumusolo returned to Leipzig for the 2015/16 season and was in the squad of the second team that played in the Regionalliga Nordost until the end of the season. After the season Sumusalo moved to FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . After only one year with 21 appearances in the league, the contractual relationship was terminated. After a long-term absence from a club, Chemnitzer FC signed him on January 17, 2018 until June 30, with an option to extend his contract. After the end of the season, however, he was adopted.

For the 2018/2019 season, Mikko Sumusalo returned to the HJK Helsinki in the top Finnish league, but in January 2019 he already moved to league rivals FC Honka Espoo . However, he only stayed here until the end of the year before he left the club.

National team

Sumusolo made his debut for the Finnish senior team on January 22, 2012. In the 3-2 win over Trinidad and Tobago , he played over 90 minutes. He scored his first goal on January 23, 2013 in a 3-1 win over Thailand .
