Minami Ozaki ( Japanese 尾崎 南 , Ozaki Minami ; born February 27, 1968 in Hiratsuka as Ryō Minami ) is a Japanese mangaka , the manga of which can be mainly assigned to the Shōnen-Ai genre.

Life

Ozaki Minami was born on February 27, 1968 in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture , as Ryō Minami ( 南 亮 , Minami Ryō ). She changed her name in October 1986 after her idol Ozaki Yutaka . In addition, she sometimes publishes under the pseudonym Minami Himemuro ( 姫 室 ミ ナ ミ , Himemuro Minami ) or Minami Namikaze ( 波 風 ミ ナ ミ , Namikaze Minami ).

Minami started out as a dōjinshi artist. Her first professional publication was the short story Chūsei no Akashi (dt. Loyalty), which was published in 1988 in the Japanese manga magazine Margaret . A year later, in 1989, the illustrator made her breakthrough with the Shōnen-Ai-Manga Zetsuai (Eng. Absolute Love) and its successor Bronze , on which she has been working since 1991. Minami is often referred to as a pioneer in the field of Shōnen Ai. In parallel to this work, she continues to draw dojinshi.

Minami's works are characterized by drama, tragedy and love. This reflects the eccentric and extreme that characterize the illustrator herself. She also processes her preference for dark symbolism, for example chains, blood and swastikas in the mangas.

Minami's mangas have been translated into German, French, Italian and Spanish, among others.
