Ragnar Sigurðsson (born June 19, 1986 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic football player . His position is in central defense.
Career
society
Ragnar Sigurðsson played in his home country for Fylkir Reykjavík until 2006 , before moving to Swedish top club IFK Göteborg in 2006 . There the 1.87 m tall and 85 kg heavy defender soon matured into a regular player and attracted the interest of many European clubs.
For the 2011/12 season, Ragnar moved to Danish champions FC Copenhagen for the equivalent of 800,000 euros , where he signed a four-year contract.
During the winter break of the 2013/14 season, he moved to Russia for three million euros and signed a contract with FK Krasnodar until 2016.
After a subsequent commitment by FC Fulham, including a loan to FK Rubin Kasin , Ragnar remained loyal to the Premjer-Liga by signing a contract with FK Rostov on January 18, 2018.
On January 20, 2020, he then signed another contract with the Danish first division club FC Copenhagen .
National team
On August 22, 2007 Ragnar Sigurðsson celebrated his debut for the national team against Canada .
At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was accepted into Iceland's squad. Ragnar was in all five tournament games for the full season on the court. In the 2-1 win against England he scored the interim equalizer with his second international goal to make it 1-1 in the 6th minute of the game. When Iceland played for the first time, the team made it to the quarter-finals, where it was eliminated by hosts France.
He was also on the Icelandic squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where Iceland was able to take part in a World Cup finals for the first time. After a draw with Argentina and defeats against Nigeria and Croatia, Iceland was eliminated as the last in Group D in the preliminary round; Ragnar Sigurðsson was the central defender in all three games.
