Swedish football supercup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swedish Football Supercup ( Swedish : Supercupen ) was a Swedish football competition for club teams. To determine the winner, between 2007 and 2015, the reigning national champions competed against the reigning cup winners every year after the end of or before the start of a season. Should the champion also be the reigning cup winner, he played against the table runner-up.

The Supercup was held for the first time in 2007. In the men's category, until the success of the cup winners Helsingborgs IF 2011, only the national champions were included in the list of winners. After the competition had only slightly aroused audience interest in the first few years, the number of viewers in the 2011 competition for men exceeded 10,000 fans for the first time. In the following years, however, this mark was no longer reached. At the beginning of 2016, the association finally decided to discontinue the competition because the public interest - both among stadium visitors and TV viewers - had fallen short of expectations.
