Years of traveling in England

At first he was not used under coach Harry Redknapp , so that he was loaned to Kidderminster Harriers in the Football League Two in the fall of that year . After he had made five appearances before his return to Fratton Park in late November, he had to wait until May of the following year before he was allowed to play in the Premier League . On May 7, he was substituted on in the 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers in the 60th minute for Diomansy Kamara . After another use in the first division, Redknapp, who returned in the summer, planned again without him.

In September 2005, Portsmouth FC decided to lend Keene again. By the end of the year he ran for Bournemouth AFC in the third-rate Football League One , scoring one goal each against Colchester United and Brentford FC . When the loan period expired, he moved to another club on loan. This time he played under coach Steve Evans for Boston United in the fourth-rate Football League Two. He came in his two-month stay at the club to six games, in which he scored his only goal in the 1-1 draw against Rochdale AFC .

Change to Sweden

In March 2006 Keene moved on loan to the traditional Swedish club GAIS , where he signed a loan agreement that was valid until December 31 of that year. In the Allsvenskan he established himself straight away as a regular player and was characterized by his scoring risk. He scored ten goals this season for the Gothenburg club. As the club's top scorer, he helped the club to stay in league position in eleventh place.

As a result, Keene was not only interested in continuing to work at GAIS, but also at the league rivals Helsingborgs IF and IF Elfsborg . Ultimately, he decided on the club from Borås . He signed a five-year contract with the reigning champions. With his first competitive goal he led his new employer to win the first edition of the Supercup on March 31, 2007 . Nevertheless, he could not finally prevail, as he only scored four goals in his first year for IFE. In January 2008, he injured his cruciate ligament , so that he missed much of the 2008 season. Upon his return in the fall, he scored three goals in nine games and then returned to the club's regular formation. In qualifying for the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League , he contributed two goals against the Portuguese club Sporting Braga to the advancement until he failed in the following round with the club at Lazio . With eight goals this season in the Allsvenskan by the end of the season, he was ultimately the club's best internal goalscorer. In the 2010 season no longer permanently trunk strength, he nevertheless extended at the beginning of the following year in addition to the young players Oscar Hiljemark and Niklas Hult his contract until the end, 2014.

In the first half of the 2011 season , Keene was only used as a substitute 14 times.
