Start of career at AIK

Bengtsson first played in the youth of IFK Kumla , a club from his birthplace. There he knew how to convince and attracted the interest of almost all of Sweden's major football clubs, with AIK Solna prevailing and bringing him into his youth department in 2004.

After Bengtsson had initially played for two years exclusively in the youth division of AIK, he made his professional debut in the Allsvenskan on August 27, 2006 in the league game against Östers IF . At first he was used irregularly and was used as a substitute for most of his games. Nevertheless, he developed into a candidate for the Swedish U-21 national team . After he had competed for several Swedish youth selections in previous years, he made his debut on November 21, 2007 in the 3-0 defeat against the Turkish U-21 selection . As a result, he established himself in the U-21 squad and earned a regular place in the AIK competition team during the 2008 season. As fifth in the table, he missed a place in the European Cup with the club .

In the 2009 season Bengtsson lost his regular place on the offensive at AIK, but was able to hold on to the junior national team. The selection coaches Tommy Söderberg and Jörgen Lennartsson appointed him at the end of May alongside his club mates Per Karlsson and Gabriel Özkan for the Swedish squad for the U-21 European Championship in Sweden . In the course of the tournament he remained without a game.

Five and a half years in Denmark

At the end of the summer transfer window in 2009 changed Bengtsson for FC Nordsjælland in the Danish Superliga and got the jersey number he gave 27 his competitive debut for his new club in late September at the 4: 1 away win in the Cup match at AB Copenhagen in which he the hit for intermediate 2 : 0 lead scored. Then he also played in the league in the regular formation. After his old club AIK won the championship at the end of the Allsvenskansaeason 2009 and he had completed more than half of the season games before changing clubs, he was named Swedish champion at the end of the year. At the side of Michael Parkhurst , Patrice Bernier and his compatriots Benjamin Kibebe and Rawez Lawan , he finished his first season in Denmark as seventh in the table. He also stayed in the U-21 national team, with which he took part in qualifying for the 2011 U-21 European Championship .
