Karl-Johan "Kalle" Johnsson (born January 28, 1990 in Ränneslöv , Laholm municipality ) is a Swedish football player . The goalkeeper made his debut for Halmstads BK in 2008 in the Allsvenskan , four years later he played for the first time in the Swedish national team .

Career

Johnsson first played at Ränneslövs GIF in his youth . At the age of 15 he moved to the youth department of Halmstad BK . There he drew the attention of the people in charge of Svenska Fotbollförbundet and made his debut in the Swedish youth national team in autumn 2007. The following year he moved up as the third goalkeeper in the professional squad of his club. After the departure of Marcus Sahlmans in the summer, he moved up and came after an injury to Magnus Bahnes in the 1: 2 defeat against Djurgårdens IF as a substitute in August of that year for his first game in professional football. In the following two seasons he was used as a substitute irregularly, but asserted himself in the junior selections. In June 2009, the coaching duo Tommy Söderberg and Jörgen Lennartsson used him for the first time in the Swedish U-21 selection , but Kristoffer Nordfeldt emerged as a regular goalkeeper in the selection. After Bahnes left at the end of 2009, Johnsson was only a substitute behind Robin Malmqvist and slipped out of the junior national team's squad.

Before the start of the 2011 season , Halmstads BK had signed a new coach in Josep Clotet Ruiz , who brought five players from Spain to the club. Among them was the goalkeeper Nauzet Pérez González , who guarded the goal in the first games of the season. After being sent off on matchday seven, Johnsson moved up and - after a coach change to Jens Gustafsson in July - was a regular between the posts until the end of the season. The club won only three games during the entire season and was relegated to the bottom of the table in the second-rate Superettan . Nevertheless, he had played back in the course of the season in the U-21 selection and was called up after the season for a January tour by national coach Erik Hamrén as one of nine newcomers next to his teammate Marcus Olsson in the senior team. In the 5-0 win against the Qatari national team , he made his debut in the selection jersey when he replaced Johan Dahlin in the second half . In the following season he was in all 30 games of the season between the posts, at the side of Johan Blomberg , Johnny Lundberg , Christian Järdler and Guðjón Baldvinsson he reached the relegation place and rose directly after successes over the GIF Sundsvall . At the same time, he was also a regular player in the U-21 selection, with which he reached the play-off games for qualifying for the U-21 European Championship in 2013 . The team missed the final round due to two defeats in the playoffs against the Italian youth team .

At the beginning of November, Johnsson signed a contract with the Dutch club NEC Nijmegen, which was valid until summer 2016 . Here he was first substitute goalkeeper behind Gábor Babos with coach Alex Pastoor , but at the beginning of the 2013/14 season he moved up as a regular goalkeeper. After the club slipped into the relegation battle, a new coach was presented in the form of long-time NEC player Anton Janssen . He also relied on Johnsson for long stretches, and it was only in the last quarter of the season that the previous substitute Dennis Gentenaar made a handful of missions. At the end of the season, the team occupied a relegation place . Against Sparta Rotterdam he stood alongside Rens van Eijden , Søren Rieks , Kevin Conboy and Christoph Hemlein in both games between the posts, but the club relegated to the second division after two defeats.

In the summer of 2014 Johnsson left the Netherlands and moved to Denmark. He signed a three-year contract with Randers FC . In the 2014/15 season he reached the fourth place as a regular goalkeeper in 32 of the 33 season games with the team at the side of Alexander Fischer , Mads Fenger , Theódór Elmar Bjarnason and his compatriots Viktor Lundberg and Mikael Ishak , who shone as the club's top scorer Place in the table, which meant participation in the qualifying round for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League . There he retired with the team after a 0-0 first leg draw by a 0-1 defeat in extra time against the Swedish club IF Elfsborg in the second round. At the same time, he stayed in the circle of the national team, but was mostly in the shadow of Andreas Isaksson and Robin Olsen , so that he was regularly only the second or third goalkeeper in the squad and only occasionally made international appearances . Even after the 2015/16 season , which he finished sixth with the club, the competition was preferred to him and he was not even in the squad of national coach Erik Hamrén for the 2016 European Championship .

In the summer of 2016, Johnsson moved to France for EA Guingamp , where he signed a four-year contract. There he was right away he was a regular goalkeeper in Ligue 1 , which was also rewarded by the new national coach Janne Andersson , who nominated him in August as one of three goalkeepers alongside the European Championship drivers Robin Olsen and Patrik Carlgren . While he was the undisputed number one at club level - apart from a game break due to a dismissal in the 2-1 defeat at Toulouse FC on matchday five, in which he was represented by Romain Salin - over the course of the 2016/17 season however, his place on the bench in the national team continued.

In July 2019, he moved on to the Danish champions FC Copenhagen and signed a contract there until 2023.
