Guðjón Baldvinsson (born February 15, 1986 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic football player . The striker , who made his debut for the Icelandic national team in 2009 , has played in his home country and Sweden in his career so far.
Career
Guðjón made his debut in 2003 for the then second division club UMF Stjarnan in adult football , where he initially took on the role of a supplementary player as a young talent. After relegation to the third division at the end of 2004, he won a regular place and with 14 goals in 17 games of the season was one of the guarantors for direct promotion. Also in the second division he showed his scoring danger. At the end of the 2007 season, he had twelve league goals, which earned him third place on the top scorer list. Then the record champions KR Reykjavík took him under contract from the 2008 season. Together with Björgólfur Hideaki Takefusa he formed the club's storm duo in the Pepsideild , who ended the season in fourth place in the table. With nine goals this season he was behind the 14-time successful Björgólfur second-best club-internal scorer and ended up among the top ten goalscorers in the country.
In early 2009, Guðjón joined the Swedish club GAIS . Before he started the season with the Gothenburg club, however, he made his international debut in March in a 2-1 defeat by the Faroe Islands . In the following season, however, he did not get beyond the status of a supplementary player. He only made five appearances in the Allsvenskan as a substitute by the end of the season, plus six games for the reserve team. Then the club loaned him to Iceland from March 2010 together with his compatriot Guðmundur Reynir Gunnarsson .
For KR Guðjón scored ten goals in 13 games, with four goals behind Alfreð Finnbogason he finished fifth in the Pepsideild goalscorer list. The following spring he moved to Iceland on a permanent basis and signed a three-year contract with the club. At the side of Kjartan Finnbogason , Baldur Sigurðsson , Viktor Bjarki Arnarsson and Hannes Þór Halldórsson , he dominated the championship with the team and won the club's 25th championship title at the end of the season.
At the turn of the year 2011/12 Guðjón moved back to Sweden and joined Halmstads BK in the Superettan , where he signed a three-year contract. With 16 goals this season, he contributed significantly to the rise of the team around Karl-Johan Johnsson , Ryan Miller , Christian Järdler and Johnny Lundberg to the Allsvenskan. As a result, he returned to the national team in autumn, in the 2-0 defeat against Switzerland on October 16 as part of the qualification for the 2014 World Cup , he played his second international match as a substitute.
