Career
Career start in Costa Rica
Oviedo, who was born in the capital, San José , joined the club's men's squad for the first time in 2008 , after having been active in the youth of Deportivo Saprissa . With the team from Tibás in the province of San José , the then 18-year-old made his team debut in a 0-0 away draw against AD Ramonense on November 23, 2008 , when he was on the grass from the start and played in the 57th minute slightly more experienced Fernando Paniagua was replaced. At the end of the season, the CD Saprissa was allowed to call itself champion of the Costa Rican Apertura 2008 , after losing 2-0 to LD Alajuelense in the final first leg, but winning the game 3-0 in the following second leg.
After nine more league appearances in the Clausura 2009 , in which Saprissa was ranked first in Group B at the end of the season, but was then eliminated in the semifinals with a total score of 1: 2 against Municipal Liberia , Oviedo closed his first overall season in the highest Costa Rican soccer league. In the end, Deportivio Saprissa ranked first in the final table of the overall season 2008/09 with a good gap to the runner-up. As Apertura champion, the CD Saprissa was entitled to participate in the CONCACAF Champions League 2009/10 together with the later Clausura champion Municipal Liberia and the best runner-up CS Herediano .
There the CD Saprissa was drawn into Group C together with the CD Cruz Azul , the Columbus Crew and the Puerto Rico Islanders FC . Oviedo made a Champions League appearance when he was on the pitch in the 2-0 defeat by Cruz Azul and was substituted for Javier Loaiza in the 55th minute . At the same time as the Champions League, the defensive player was also involved in the official league events of his club. The 19-year-old made seven appearances in the Primera División de Costa Rica . After the good performance he showed at CD Saprissa, a club from Europe noticed the talent of the young Costa Rican.
Change to FC Copenhagen
After making his debut for his home country's senior team just a few days earlier, Oviedo signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with FC Copenhagen in late January 2010 . The main reason for signing a defensive player, who can mainly be used at the back left, was that a replacement was being sought for Oscar Wendt , as he held this position on the left side of defense as the sole professional player in Copenhagen after Niclas Jensen's career ended . Immediately after signing the contract, Oviedo flew on to FC Copenhagen's training camp in Marbella , Spain , where he finally made his team debut in a training match against Kalmar FF from Sweden .
After further assignments in the training camp, the now 20-year-old finally made his debut in the Danish Super League on May 5, 2010 , when he replaced Oscar Wendt in the left defender position in the 4-0 home win over HB Køge from the 72nd minute. This victory was enough to crown FC Copenhagen with a comfortable point advantage two rounds before the end, after 2008/09 , the Danish football championship again. This is the seventh championship title in Copenhagen in the last ten years. After successfully defending his title, the young Costa Rican made two short appearances in the last two league games.
Everton FC
On August 31, 2012 he signed a four-year contract with Everton, England .
International
Oviedo gained his first significant international experience in the U-20 national team of his home country , with which he took part in the 2009 Junior World Cup in Egypt . The defensive player was used in a total of six international matches and finally reached the game for third place with the team , but where the team was eliminated on penalties against their peers from Hungary in fourth place.
To his senior team debut Oviedo came in a friendly match against 26 January 2010 Argentina . In the narrow 3-2 defeat of his country, the 19-year-old played through the entire match and was marked with the yellow card in minute 50 .
