Career

society

Papagiannopoulus comes from the youth of the AIK . For the club, however, he did not get beyond training and friendship games, so that he loaned the youngster from the second division season 2008 to the cooperation partner Väsby United . Although he was only used irregularly in professional football in the first two years, he was recommended for the Swedish U-19 national team , for which he played three international matches in 2009 . In the second division season in 2010 , he was increasingly used in his club and played in 18 of the 30 season games, but at the end of 2010 they parted ways. The defender moved to the third division Division 1 , where he was promoted to team captain at Akropolis IF . After a season with five goals in 24 games, he returned to the Superettan, where he signed a contract with Assyriska Föreningen . Here he was a regular player for long stretches over the next three years. After the team had initially placed in the middle of the table, they slipped into the relegation battle in the second division season 2014 . Third from bottom of the final table, the club had to go into relegation , where it prevailed after a 0-0 and a 1-1 draw thanks to the away goals rule and remained in the second division.

After the end of the season, Papagiannopoulus moved to Greece to PAOK Thessaloniki , and in early December 2012 he signed a contract with the club from the Greek Super League that was valid until the summer of 2017 . Here, however, he hardly got beyond the role of a supplementary player, so that the contract was terminated in the summer. The defender then returned to Sweden, where he was accommodated by the second division side Östersunds FK . By the end of the season he played 9 games, with the team coached by Graham Potter he rose to the Allsvenskan for the first time in the club's history . There he played in over two-thirds of the league games in the following years. In May 2017, he moved into the final of the Swedish Football Cup with the club . With a 4-1 win over IFK Norrköping with goals from Samuel Mensah , Hosam Aiesh , Alhaji Gero and Saman Ghoddos when Linus Wahlqvist conceded, he won the title, as a substitute for Aiesh he was on the field in the second half. The club qualified for the first time for the European Cup , where the team reached the group stage in the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League after successes over Galatasaray Istanbul , CS Fola Esch and his ex-club PAOK Thessaloniki. After surviving this, he failed in the round of 32 at Arsenal London . For the 2018/19 season he will move to Denmark for FC Copenhagen in the ALKA Superliga .

National team

After playing three games for the Swedish U-19s in 2009, Papagiannopoulus made his debut in the senior national team on January 7, 2018 . In the 1-1 draw against Estonia , he was substituted on in the 64th minute. Four days later he played the full 90 minutes in another friendly against Denmark (1-0).
