The Cercle Sportif Fola Esch ( German Sportkreis Fola Esch ) is a Luxembourg football club . The association was founded in the city of Esch an der Alzette on December 9, 1906 by the English teacher Jean Roeder, as Fola Esch and is thus the oldest association in Luxembourg. The abbreviation Fola means FO otball and LA wn Tennis (soccer and lawn tennis). The club colors are red and white.

The club plays its home games at the Stade Émile Mayrisch . The stadium used to have a capacity of around 10,000, but after the renovation there are still 4,000 available.

  • December 9th, 1906 founded as Fola Esch / Alzette,
  • 1910 renamed CS Fola Esch / Alzette,
  • 1940 forced renaming to Rote Erde Esch / Alzig,
  • 1944 renamed CS Fola Esch / Alzette.
  • Since December 2016 they have been members of the renowned Club of Pioneers .

National successes

The traditional club played in the 2008/09 season for the first time since 1994 in the top Luxembourg division, the national division . After the club had meanwhile been relegated to the 1st division (3rd division), he played again in the honorary doctorate (2nd division) since the 2006/2007 season . Fola Esch failed in 2007 in the promotion game to the national division with 0-2 to Victoria Rosport , succeeded in the following year direct promotion. In 2013 he won his first championship title after 83 years. In 2017, CS Fola won the Luxembourg Supercup after a 2-2 draw at the end of regular time with a 9-8 on penalties against F91 Dudelange .
