Youth and early career

Andreas Bjelland, the son of a Norwegian and a Danish woman, began his career with his hometown club BK Søllerød-Vedbæken and then played in the youth of Lyngby BK . In the 2007/08 season he came to the professional team and signed a professional contract.

He made his debut in the Superliga , the first Danish league, on the first day of the game on July 25, 2007, when he played in the 1-1 draw against Odense BK and was also in the starting line-up. Bjelland only made eleven appearances. At the end of the season, Lyngby BK rose from the Super League and had to go to the Viasat Sport Division . In the 2008/09 season he came to 22 missions, where he also scored his first goal as a professional. In the 4-1 win against Hvidovre IF he made it 3-0.

Direct recovery was missed and the club only finished sixth.

Success with FC Nordsjælland

In 2009 Bjelland played the first four game days for Lyngby and then moved to the first division for FC Nordsjælland . There the central defender became a regular player and showed good performances, which in 2010 also won the Danish Cup. Due to his good performance, he also aroused the interest of the German Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In the winter break of the 2010/11 season, the Leverkusen team wanted to get Bjelland, as they feared an increase in market value in view of participating in the 2011 U-21 European Football Championship . However, there was no obligation. With the FCN he reached the cup final for the second time in a row and was able to defend the cup victory in 2011. In the 2011/12 season Bjelland was part of the team for the third year in a row. At the end of the season he became Danish champions with the club.

FC Twente Enschede

Bjelland moved to FC Twente in the Eredivisie for the 2012/13 season . He received a four-year contract with an option for an additional year.

Brentford FC

On July 2, 2015 Bjelland moved to Brentford FC in the English Football League Championship . The second division paid a transfer fee of 3 million euros. In the three seasons on the island Bjelland played 50 second division games and scored one goal for his club.

FC Copenhagen

On July 9, 2018, FC Copenhagen announced Bjelland's commitment. He signed a four-year contract with the Danish record champions.

National team

Bjelland played games for the U16 , U18 and U19 national teams in his country and was the captain of Denmark's U-21 national team . On November 17, 2010, he played his first A international match for Denmark against the Czech Republic . A year later he was also used twice in qualifying for the 2012 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine and at the end of May 2012 he was included in the European Championship squad . He was not used in any of the three group games of the Danish national team. In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , he played three games and scored one goal; as the worst runners-up in the group, the qualification for participation in the final round was missed.

Bjelland later played three games in the qualifying round for the 2016 European Championships in France . Participation in the play-offs against Sweden was missed. In qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia , four games were used and the Danish national team took second place, which entitles them to participate in the play-offs; there Denmark prevailed against Ireland .
