Squad
On May 16, Morten Olsen named a preliminary squad of 20 players. The most experienced players in the squad were Christian Poulsen and Dennis Rommedahl , who also played in 2004 . On May 19, Anders Lindegaard was appointed as the third goalkeeper . On May 24th, defender Jores Okore and attacker Nicklas Pedersen were added to the final squad. Since regular goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen sustained a back injury during the defeat in the friendly against Brazil and was therefore unable to play for the European Championship, coach Morten Olsen called Kasper Schmeichel , the son of the Danish national player Peter Schmeichel , as a substitute. 16 of the 23 players from the Danish squad were under contract with clubs abroad at the time of the European Championship finals, with Stephan Andersen, Daniel Wass and Thomas Kahlenberg three were even under contract with a joint club, namely FC Évian Thonon Gaillard , whereby Kahlenberg was only loaner.
