Games of the Czech Republic
Preliminary round
Czech denied the preliminary competition in the group A . The Czech Republic, like Greece and Russia, were drawn into the hosted Polish team. The record against Greece was negative with 2 draws and 1 defeat before the EM, the latter in the semifinals of the EM 2004 with the last silver goal prevented the Czech team from reaching the final. The record against Poland was also negative with 2 wins and 3 defeats. Both have never met at a European Championship finals. So far there has only been one game against Russia: In the European Championship preliminary round in 1996 , the two separated 3: 3, with the Czechs reaching the quarter-finals by 3: 3 in the 90th minute.
All preliminary round matches of the Czech team took place in the Polish city of Wroclaw , which meant that the Czech spectators had the shortest journey of all visiting teams.
